WHO YOU'LL SEE

ADOS-2 trained clinical psychologists.

Every clinician on our autism team is formally trained on the ADOS-2 instrument and works exclusively in neurodevelopmental conditions, not generalists, not occasional autism work.

WHAT WE'RE ASSESSING

Four dimensions, one conclusion.

Autism presents very differently across age, gender and culture. We don't look for a single signature, we triangulate across four threads of evidence.

01

Social communication

How you connect, read others, and exchange information in conversation. Verbal and non-verbal signals, social reciprocity, conversational rhythm.

02

Sensory & repetitive

Sensory preferences and overload, routines that hold the day together, special interests and the structures that support focus.

03

Developmental history

How traits showed up across your life, childhood patterns, school years, work or relationships. Often the part you most want a name for.

04

Masking & camouflaging

The strategies you've developed to fit in, and the cost they extract. Particularly relevant for late-recognised adults and women.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

A pathway that takes observation seriously.

Every Neurofer autism assessment follows NICE CG142 (adults) or CG128 (children). The gold-standard piece, ADOS-2, sits at the centre, not as an afterthought.

FAQ

Common questions, answered honestly.

How long does the assessment take?

The clinical interview is 90–120 minutes, plus a 60–90 minute ADOS-2 observation. Pre-assessment questionnaires take around an hour at home. Total clinician contact time: roughly three to four hours, sometimes split across two appointments.

Why is ADOS-2 done in person?

ADOS-2 is a structured observation, the clinician is reading subtle signals across the whole session. We can run virtual where in-person isn't feasible, but the gold-standard delivery is face-to-face in a controlled sensory environment.

Is the diagnosis recognised by the NHS and my GP?

Yes. Our reports follow NICE CG142 (adults) or CG128 (children) and are written to the standard NHS clinics expect. Most GPs add the diagnosis to your record and use it to coordinate onward care.

What support is available after diagnosis?

Your post-diagnostic call (60 minutes) walks you through the report and signposts you to therapy, peer-support, reasonable-adjustment letters for work or school, and other autism-specific services in your area.

What if I'm not diagnosed with autism?

We'll explain what we found and didn't find in the post-diagnostic call. The report sets out what your profile looks like and signposts to other clinicians if your experiences point to something different.

Do you assess for ADHD or co-occurring conditions?

Yes. If signs of ADHD or another condition come up during screening, we'll offer a combined assessment. If it comes up later, we can extend the assessment without restarting.
